An Interview with Sir Adam Devlin

This week I was able to sit down with fellow blogger, classmate and friend, Adam Devlin, and talk to him about his life as an aspiring stylist and designer. In my eyes this guy is a legend. I leave college everyday with a smile on my face after having experiencing the bazaar things he comes up with. He loves everybody and everything (as long as they're up for a laugh). He is a true inspiration and a pleasure to collaborate with. I have high hopes for this dude and it is my great honor to be able to call him a friend.

Q. Tell me a little bit about yourself. Where you were born? Your educational background? What made you interested in fashion?

A. My name is Adam. I'm from Galway. I'm currently studying Fashion Design in GTI. What made me interested in fashion? Ehm.. I like looking well.

Q. What does fashion mean to you?
A. It means dressing well.. I don't know, what is this question?!

Q. How would you define your city's fashion?
A. Ugg boots are visible on the streets, I think that says everything..

Q. When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
A. I never did. I don't have any interest in becoming a designer. I much prefer a career as a stylist or a creative director or something..

Q. What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
A. A black pencil skirt. Initially I wanted to make it out of leather but my tutor wouldn't allow because I was beginner.. Whateverr.

Q. Who are some of your favourite designers?
A. My favourite designer at the moment is Givenchy. I love all of Riccardo Tisci's work. His collections are always something I look forward to, and if I had the money I would have it all.. someday..

Q. What are some of your favourite clothing stores/catalogues/websites?
A. It changes all the time but you can never go wrong with topshop/topman. At this present moment I'm loving Weekday Clothing, Kult Clothing and Jade Clarke, and of course Asos Marketplace and Urban Outfitters.. Christ, the list goes on

Q. What advice do you have for aspiring fashion designers/stylists like yourself?
A. Make sure it's what you want to do.

Q. How would you define your personal style?
A. It all depends on my mood. Some days I like grunge, some days I want to dress like Kanye West.. It really depends on my mood.

Q. What are some of your fashion goals?
A. Just be successful and love what I do.

Q. Where do you get your inspiration?
A. Tumblr.. Other bloggers.. Artists.

Q. Do you try to keep with the trends or create your own?
A. I do and I don't. I'm aware of them, and I do sometimes try to incorporate them into my wardrobe but I wouldn't be a trend slave or anything.

Q. Do you come up with concepts for designs first or is it more of an unplanned thing?
A. Planning is key. I can't do anything unless I have an idea mapped out in my head or on paper..

Q. Where can readers find out more about you and your work?
A. http://cuzimadam.blogspot.ie/

Q. What would you call a casual night in?
A. Am.. Food, trolling through tumblr and lots of tea

Q. Which would you rather live without, the internet or your skinny jeans?
A. How could you even ask me this?! Am.. Maybe the internet..

Q. Who is your style icon and why?
A. It changes like the weather but at the moment I'm intrigued by Byron London's wardrobe (tumblr blogger).. And ehm.. that guy from Hurts, I think his name is Theo..

Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. I can't see myself tomorrow let alone in 10 years.. Eh, successful and happy I guess..

Q. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
A. London

Q. What is your must have accessory?
A. At the moment, it's probably a beanie hat.. and a gold chain

Q. What is your favorite item of clothing in your wardrobe?
A. Probs my leather biker jacket.. or my creepers

Much Love,
Shannon.

Spring/Summer Trends 2013 Review

The shows may be coming to an end but the trend setting is still going. The shows have left behind a variety of trends for us to talk about, follow or make our own. We are spoiled for choice this year! The biggest trends seem to be neons, happy colours, pastels, monochrome, plaid, checkered patterns and cool cropped proportions. I'm here with you today to go through my top three trends that the designers had on show for us this Spring/Summer.

#1: Marc Jacobs
I thought that Marc did a fabulous job on the monochrome (black and white) trend this year. He used the lines to flatter the female figure and elongate it. For those of you who are a fan of this trend, New Look do a really good selection on it so pop in to have a look.

#2: Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton did a really good job on neons and monochrome this year. They really stuck with yellow, black and white which I thought was cool and individualistic. There were a few pastels thrown in as well. Yellow is a huge trend this summer and these guys made it really fun to wear. I'm getting a bit of a 60's vibe. A Wear have a really good range of bright summer colours. I think that Louis Vuitton would put us all into debt!

#3: Alexander McQueen: Without a doubt my utmost favorite out of the shows. Sarah Burton took inspiration from beehives and played around with shapes, colours and textures. She really made Spring and Summer so colourful this year (we all need some of that here in Ireland). Her designs were fun and spectacularly made. The colour palette of this collection from Alexander McQueen was so exciting and I look forward to experimenting with them soon. Here are some images from the Spring/Summer 2013 show.

Much love,
Shannon.

London Fashion Week S/S 2013

London Fashion week has finally begun! I had the privilege of attending the Topshop fashion show when I was only 14 in the Oxford Street store.. I was too short to see beyond the sea of bodies but from the glimpses I did manage to get, I was inspired. I then went to a workshop for aspiring designers and I was the youngest among the others (who were college students or graduates). No one really took me seriously but I was so excited from the buzzing atmosphere that surrounded me that day. So ever since I was 14, London Fashion week is what I live for. I'm hoping to go next year and see a few shows in the flesh. Anyone going this year? Well if you are, be sure to take loads of pictures and keep them forever!

Here are a few pictures from the collections that have been shown so far and I'll have a full post on the weeks antics and shenanigans in the coming days. Have a fab weekend!

Much Love,
Shannon.
