Travel Inspired Collection

Jet Setter

OK so here is the most recent project that we were assigned just before Christmas. Our end of year fashion show is travel themed so we were instructed to design a dress inspired by this theme. We also had to dig deeper and that is where I came up with the title "Jet Setter". I wanted my collection to be about an independent woman with impeccable style, taking on the world. This woman would go from place to place investigating the style and culture of each location. I have decided that my dress and collection is going to be based on the luxurious life of the elite in Paris (it also helped that I had the opportunity to go there myself in December!). I have chosen a baroque polyester material to work with that I have now ordered from Paris. I will have my final collection and dress design for you next week but for now, here is a preview of all my sketches that helped me get to where I am now. Enjoy!

Beginning of a new Collection

Okay guys so here Is a sample design of a dress for the end of year fashion show. I'm stuck between two fabrics, the burgundy and the gold. I myself prefer the gold (and its cheaper) but I would love for you to share your thoughts because at the end of the day I'm not designing for myself, I'm designing for the public. Thoughts anyone?

Raf Simons: The new chief of Dior

The Belgium born designer Raf Simons, born in 1968, has been announced as the new creative director for Christian Dior. He is a designer best known for his dramatic career change as he originally graduated in Industrial design and Furniture design in 1991.

Simons launched his own label in 1995 and was appointed creative director of Jil Sander in 2005, ten years after the launch of his label. He was also head professor of the fashion department of the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, where he stayed until June 2005 when he was offered the creative director’s position. Simons’ look is all about new shapes, modern proportions and pure construction. His looks are also quite simplistic in comparison to the designs of Galliano. Simons began to finalise contracts with Dior on December 13th 2011 which would see him replace John Galliano as creative director following Galliano’s dismissal the previous year.

It was confirmed that Simons was in fact the new creative director for Dior on the 9th of April 2012. His first Dior collection was scheduled to show during the Couture Collections the following July. The impact that Raf made on the fashion industry was immediate.

Different is the new Normal

Shaun Ross

This is Shaun Ross (born on May 10th 1991). He is a professional fashion model best known for being the first male albino model. He has been featured in world famous magazines such as British GQ, Italian Vogue and ID Magazine. He has also had the pleasure of modelling for designers such as Alexander McQueen and Givenchy.

This extraordinary man grew up in the Bronx and went to a school that was predominantly attended by African Americans. He was one of these students but was bullied because of how he looked. He was often called "powder" or "Casper" by his peers even though he was of the same race. The bullying became so bad and one day, he was stabbed in the back 7 times with a pen by another student.
Now 21, Shaun has now gone on to star on many TV talk shows and was given the main role in Katy Perry's ET music video. This dude is a great example of how being different is a gift, not a burden.

From Pretty Little Liars to Pretty Lavish Ladies

Okay so I don't know about you guys but I am OBSESSED with the show Pretty Little Liars. I adore the story line and the style of each character is unique and reflects their different personalities. Whoever the on set stylist is on the show, props to you!

Spencer Hastings - Troian Bellisario
For those who do not know, Spencer Hastings is the more "preppy" girl of the cast. She's big into her school work and is a winner at heart. It is her winners approach that helps the girls out of so many situations and her intelligence has remained evident throughout the series. I must admit that Spencer's style is my favourite out of all the cast. She always looks flawless whether she's wearing a cute prom dress or a sweat shirt. Spencer has been defined as having the preppy look, but hell, she is doing it justice!!! My favourite item of clothing that Spencer often wears has got to be her tailored jackets. They all fit her like a glove and add a sense of elegance to her character. It can also be said that the jackets are used as a symbolic reference to her maturity that is years ahead of the other girls.

Aria Montgomery - Lucy Hale
I think that Aria is without a doubt the most dramatic out of the four girls. Whether its having a relationship with her teacher, keeping her fathers affair a secret or spying on her boyfriends ex and her child without him knowing. Aria's style also represents her characteristics. She wears a lot of dark autumnal colours, biker boots, hats and has a never ending supply of accessories. I'd say that her style is very Indie rock and roll chick with a hint of glamour every now and then. The colours represent the darkness that she finds herself in when being forced to keep yet another part of her life hidden before being threatened by "A".

Hanna Marin - Ashley Benson

Hanna Marin is the "it" girl out of the crew. She's always decked out in the best quality clothes, both high street and designer. Needless to say that her favourite past time is shopping or sneaking around with her dearest beloved, Caleb. I think that Hanna is the most easy going and positive person out of the girls. She's always smiling and never ceases the opportunity to discover "A's" true identity, no matter how dangerous the situation. She is a risk taker and I think that it can also be seen in her wardrobe choice. Hanna doesn't do easy or predictable. She always has a plan ready up her designer sleeve.

Emily Fields - Shay Mitchell

This little flower has begun to blossom over the past couple of episodes but it can be said that Emily is the most vulnerable out of the group. She doesn't really have a specific style but always looks great in whatever she wears. She's almost like the earthly goddess as she wears minimal makeup and accessories in  the show. But lately she's been exposing her more adventurous side in both her personality and her style. She veers towards biker jackets, boots, t-shirts and jeans (all very casual). Emily is most definitely the tom boy of the group but manages to make it all so appealing to the eye.
